Dead' teacher given orders to work as hall supervisor in Krishnagiri

KRISHNAGIRI: In a strange goof-up, the Education department authorities in Krishnagiri gave orders to a lady teacher to work as the hall supervisor for the plus-2 examinations at a school centre in the district without knowing that she is not alive. S. Indhumathi, a graduate teacher working in Uthankarai Government girls higher secondary school in Krishnagiri district, had died a few months ago due to an illness.
Her name appeared in the list of teachers appointed as hall supervisors for the plus-2 examinations for the center in the Karapattu government higher secondary school, near Uthankarai. This error was first noticed by her colleagues, who informed the higher officials about Indumathi appointed for the duty without knowing that she had passed away on October 31, 2017, due to illness.
However, reporters came to know about this internal slip-up two days after the public examination this year started on March 1 and two language papers were already over.
“The goof up has not affected the process of conducting the examination and that was because of the school head master A. Yuvaraj who did not inform us about Indumathi’s death” K.P.Mageshwari, Chief Education Officer (CEO) for Krishnagiri told DC.
The CEO added, “24 supervisors were appointed against the required 19 teachers for this examination center having number 3417 in which 380 students including candidates from the private schools take the tests.”
According to Maheshwari, the dead teacher, Indumathi, was marked absent for two days since March 1, because of her not taking part in the lot system, a process for the selection of the hall supervisors.
The CEO also said that a departmental enquiry will be conducted against the school Headmaster for his mistake despite four mail communications sent to him with the name of the ‘dead person’ appointed unknowingly for the examination duty.
