HYDERABAD: In a novel protest against rising prices of petrol, diesel and LPG cylinders, Congress leaders, led by AICC Telangana in-charge Nadeem Javeed took up cooking on a wooden stove at Gandhi Bhavan here on Saturday.

The leaders, including TPCC minorities cell chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail, burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Blasting the steady increase of gas cylinder prices, Sohail accused the BJP government of not considering the plight of the poor and middle-class families who are the worst hit by the prices of essential commodities.

At Nallakunta crossroads, Hyderabad youth Congress president Motha Rohit and others wore masks bearing pictures of masks of Union minister Smriti Irani and carried placards that read ‘where are you cylindrella’ as she remained silent.

“We demand immediate rollback of the decision,” Rohit said.

Mahila Congress leaders held a demonstration at the BJP state office in Nampally. Around 12 protestors, including M. Sunitha Rao, were detained and sent to Abids police station.

Wearing garlands made of vegetables Mahila Congress activists held a sit-in protest in front of the BJP party office and demanded important leaders to come speak to them. “Why is their state chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar hiding?” asked Sunitha.
