Bengaluru to have 10 zones
A report on restructured zones was submitted about a year ago, but was sent back to the government as it had some flaws.
Bengaluru: It is official now. The number of BBMP zones in the city will increase from the existing eight to 10, Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George announced on Monday. The boundaries of wards will not be altered and it will also be ensured that assembly constituencies in the city are not split between two zones.
Interestingly, the reorganisation of zones will not have any bearing on the recommendations made by the three-member BBMP restructuring committee as it is not meddling with the law or changing the boundaries of wards, sources said.

The state government has given its consent to increase the number of zones to administer the city better, serve the public effectively, and to equally distribute population and work among all BBMP joint commissioners. The reorganisation, however, is based on the suggestions made by the three-member expert committee.
“A few zones were not organised properly. Some were designed vertically like a banana and it was difficult for people to reach Palike offices. Also, Assembly zones were split between zones. The restructuring exercise has cleared all these anomalies,” sources claimed.
The government will appoint two additional joint commissioners, while the approval for restructuring will allow the BBMP to hire 1,004 additional staff of different cadres like engineers, health inspectors and revenue officers.
Now, the city has East, West, South, Rajarajeshwarinagar, Dasarahalli, Mahadevapura, Bommanahalli and Yelahanka zones.
