Hyderabad: There was a steep fall in the average groundwater level in the state over two months. The level fell by 0.78 metres in March when compared to February.
The groundwater department which put out the data attributed the fall in the level due to extraction for irrigation. It said the groundwater level was expected to fall to 11.4 metre below ground level.
The fluctuation in water levels varied from 0.67 m to 13.86 m during the period from May 2016 to March 2017 in all 31 districts. The maximum of 13.86 metres was at Siddipet and the minimum was observed at Asifabad district at 0.67 metre.
The average groundwater level in the state recorded last month was 3.42 metres higher than in 2016. The average level stood at 10.96 metres against 14.37 metres in March 2016.
