Hyderabad: The talks held on Monday between the Insurance Regulatory Development Authority and truck drivers failed as the former did not accept the demand that the raised third-party insurance charges be kept in abeyance. In the talks held at the IRDA office in Basheerbagh, authority chairman T.S. Vijayan promised truckers to form a committee with members from both the IRDA and lorry associations to go into the matter.

He said the committee would submit its report within three months and based on the report, the IRDA would review the matter. The truckers de-manded that the IRDA ke-ep the orders on the inc-reasing charges towards third-party insurance in abeyance till the committee submitted its report.

While the IRDA chairman was discussing the matter, truckers felt he was dragging the issue, and walked out. President of the Telangana lorry owners’ welfare association N. Bhaskar Reddy told DC they would continue the strike. The exemptions from the strike for a few essential and emergency services would continued till the Sri Rama Navami.

“For Sri Rama Navami, many organisations have planned for Annadanams at temples. Keeping in view the convenience of the public, we have taken this decision. Besides, the South Indian lorry owners’ association, the associations of Odisha, Bihar and those from cities like Ahmedabad, Allahabad etc have also given the strike call and they would go on strike from April 6,” he said.
