Visakhapatnam: GVMC to set up water kiosks, green shades at busy junctions

The GVMC had earmarked about Rs 25 crore for its summer action plan and maintenance works.

Visakhapatnam: The GVMC had decided to set up water kiosks and green shades at all busy junctions of the city. On Monday, GVMC commissioner M. Hari Narayanan held a review meeting with the engineering and public health officials here in the commissionerate.

“All the water kiosks should be set up based on a single model. Water will be supplied from 9 am to 6 pm at these kiosks each day throughout the summer for the next 90 days. Green shades will come up at traffic islands of the city. Phone numbers of water supply officials from each ward should be made available for the public on the GVMC website. ORS packets should be made available at the water kiosks. Water kiosks should also be set up for stray cattle and dogs,” said Mr Hari Narayanan.

The GVMC had earmarked about Rs 25 crore for its summer action plan and maintenance works. Besides proposing new borewells in various parts of the city, the GVMC will also take up repairs of the existing hand borewells and pipeline network as part of the summer action plan-2017. It will also hire water tankers for 90 days to supply water in the newly merged areas such as Aganampudi, Lankelapalem, Vedullanarava, Anakapalli and other areas of the city.

Additional commissio-ner G.V.V.S. Murthy, chief engineer Dr B. Jay-arama Reddy, superintendent engineer (water supply) M. Ananda Rao and others were present.
