IISC, Bengaluru NLSIU best in country
In the law category which was added this year, Bengaluru's National Law School of India topped the category.
Bengaluru: Bengaluru's pride, the Indian Institute of Science, has been adjudged the best university in the country in a ranking list released by the Human Resources Development Ministry on Tuesday. The premier institute retained the position for the second consecutive year, topping the list in the 'overall category' in the National Institutional Ranking Framework released at New Delhi. IISC was followed by the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Bombay and Delhi in the overall category, respectively. This year, rankings were given in nine categories - overall, universities, engineering, colleges, pharmacy, management, medical, architecture and law.
IISC topped the list based on the criteria for the ranking which included the total budget and its utilisation by the university, examinations conducted by the university, number of graduating students making it to top institutions, combined metric for quality of publication etc. Over 4,000 institutes from across the country applied for the ranking this year. In the university category, IISc topped the list followed by Jawaharlal Nehru University. Banaras Hindu University managed the third position.
In the law category which was added this year, Bengaluru's National Law School of India topped the category.
