After some time, when Ms Sridhar realised that the zip of her bag was open, she checked inside to found chains missing.
Bengaluru: A Chennai-based advocate was robbed of gold valuables while he and his wife were travelling in a BMTC bus on the Outer Ring Road.
Bellandur police suspect three women were behind this theft and have launched a hunt to nab them.
According to the victim G. Sridhar (59), a resident of Madipakkam in Chennai, he had come to the city along with his wife to visit their son, who works in a private firm and resides in K.R. Puram.
The duo boarded a BMTC bus from Silk Board Junction to K.R. Puram. On the way, three women boarded the bus and stood next to where the victim was seated.
When the bus reached Ibbaluru, one of the women dropped a few coins. Under the pretext of picking up the coins that had fallen below the couple’s seat, one of the woman opened the vanity bag of Ms Sridhar and took out three gold chains. The women got down in the next stop.
After some time, when Ms Sridhar realised that the zip of her bag was open, she checked inside to found chains missing.
The duo then approached the police and lodged a complaint.
The police suspect the women were part of a gang which is targeting passengers in crowded BMTC buses.
