Telangana government schools shine in SSC exam
100 per cent pass recorded in 2,005 schools; Number of students securing 10 upon 10 GPA not given.
HYDERABAD: Almost a fifth of the schools in Telangana, or 2,005, registered hundred per cent pass percentage for students who appeared for the SSC-2017 exams. Of the 28 schools that recorded zero pass percentage this year, 20 were private schools and five were aided schools.
Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari released the Class X exam results in Secretariat on Wednesday. Over 5.07 lakh students wrote the exams that were held from March 14 to 30.
The pass percentage this year witnessed a marginal dip (84.15) compared to previous year's 85.63.
Students from Devnar School of Blind proved their mettle with 37 visually challenged writing the board exam. Of them, 30 got GPAs above 7 with some even getting 9.3 and 9.5 GPA. Devnar Founder Chairman Dr Saibaba Goud said it was a proud moment for the school.
BC Welfare Residential schools (18) secured the highest pass percentage of 94.63. This year for the first time, data was tabulated taking 31 districts into consideration.
Among the districts Jagtial was on the top of the heap with 97.35 pass percentage followed by Karimnagar (93.73) and Jangaon (93.56). Wanaparthy was last with 64.81 pass percentage.
Speaking on the occasion, Kadiyam Srihari stated that the authorities have been asked to submit a report about three gvernment schools.
“15 students from three schools have failed. It was observed that one of the schools had only two students on rolls. We are looking into reasons for the failure of these students in the examination,” the minister said.
The education department has not released the total number of students who secured 10/10 GPA (Grade Point Average) from all districts this year.
This decision was taken in view of corporate schools misleading the general public by declaring that they got the highest GPAs.
According to officials, the number of students who got 10/10 GPA was between 3,000 to 3,500.
Mr. Srihari announced that Advanced Supplementary Exams will be held from June 5 to June 19. Students were asked to submit fee without penalty before May 19.
