Election Commission notification on Chengannur bypoll issued

ALAPPUZHA: The State Election Commission issued the notification for the  Chengannur by-election on Thursday. The nomination papers will be received at RDO from 11 am to 3 pm on all days. The scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on May 11 and the last date of withdrawal of nomination will be May 14. The polling will be held on May 28 and counting on May 31.

District election officer and collector T.V. Anupama said the candidates  should open a separate bank account at least a day prior to the submission of nomination.  The account,  which will be monitored, can be opened  anywhere in the state either individually or jointly with electoral agents. All transactions after  the submission of nomination should be made through this account. Candidates can receive up to '20,000 as   cash and amounts above that only as bank cheque or draft.

A 24X7 control room has been opened to monitor the code of conduct and any violation  can be informed to the toll-free number 1800 425 0228. The pasting of banners and posters and writing  slogans on private property without the consent of the owners are illegal. Civil servants except police personnel should abstain from political functions and rallies. People’s representatives should not  attend government programmes and their names have to be removed from invitation cards. Government guest houses should not be rented out to anybody beyond 48 hours, the collector said.
