Kiran Bedi lauds commercial tax dept for collections
Revenue generating departments must set their annual targets and do their daily enforcement, monitoring and implementation.
Puducherry: Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi has lauded commercial tax department for conducting surprise visits in the month of April and collecting an amount of Rs 47.63 lakh from dealers with improper transaction.
“This kind of enforcement when done assertively and unsparingly daily will increase Puducherry revenues by at least Rs 1,000 crore in GST. This pays off the annual debt and saves money available for infrastructure,” she said.
Ms Bedi also urged other departments to follow the example to increase the revenue of Puducherry instead of accusing Union government for not allotting enough funds.
“Similar enforcement in traffic police enforcement, property taxes, bill board revenues, sanitation, severage fees, water, and cable network fees, road taxes, checking power thefts, and recovery of unpaid connections, and more areas, will increase Puducherry revenues by thousands of crores,” she said.
Revenue generating departments must set their annual targets and do their daily enforcement, monitoring and implementation.
If every agency of government sets its own goals and targets and implements its duty conscientiously, unsparingly Puducherry will have sufficient money’s to invest more into the future, said the Lt Governor.
