Chennai: Missing 37-year-old woman found dead inside well

The police noted that the body bore injury marks.

Chennai: A 37-year-old woman who went missing from her area in Manamathi village was found dead inside a well in Uthiramerur on Friday morning.

The woman, identified as B. Vimala(37), a resident of Roach Street, Manamathi, was reported to have gone missing since Wednesday.

The police said that the woman was last seen at 7 pm on Wednesday in the vicinity of her residence. However, no missing complaint was filed by her family on Wednesday as they attempted to find her on their own. On Thursday, her husband Balanmurugan(40) registered a complaint with the Perunagar police.

The next morning, the Perunagar police received a call informing them about the body of a woman floating in a well in their area. The fire rescue teams went to the spot and pulled the body out. It was later identified to be the body of the missing woman from Manamathi. The information was relayed to her family members, who were later called in to confirm her identity. The police noted that the body bore injury marks.

The footage captured by the CCTV cameras installed in the area where the woman was last seen is being scanned to understand how she got there. The police are also looking into the possibility of abduction. The Perunagar police have registered a case and sent the body to the Chengalpattu government hospital for postmortem. Further investigation is underway.
