Chennai: Rs 50 lakh worth gutka seized, five arrested

Chennai: In a major haul, Vellore police seized gutka worth Rs 50 lakh with the arrest of five persons on Friday.  The cops also seized a car and a van used for smuggling the contraband.

Based on direction from Vellore district Superintendent of Police Pravesh Kumar, a special team was conducting vehicle check at Ambur.  

The cops have halted a lorry proceeding to Vellore from Bengaluru. The cops found the lorry containing huge quantity of gutka. The cops also detained car providing logistic support to the lorry.

 The cops arrested lorry driver Suresh Kumar, car driver Ibrahim, Mohamed Gouse, Mohamed and  Saravanan and detained them at prison. The  cops seized gutka worth Rs 50 lakh, the lorry and the car.
