Karnataka gives 3 tmc ft
Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi had written to his Karnataka counterpart T. M. Vijaya Bhaskar on Friday to this effect.
Hyderabad: The Karnataka government has agreed to release 2.5 tmc ft water from the Narayanpur reservoir to the Jurala project in Mahbubnagar in order to cater to the drinking and irrigation needs of the people of Mahbubnagar district.
The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) informed that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had requested his Karnataka counterpart H.D. Kumaraswamy to release 3 tmc ft water in view of the water levels dropping steeply in the reservoirs of Mahbubnagar district.
The CMO said that the diplomatic, friendly, and cordial relationship maintained by the Mr Rao with the Karnataka government helped to provide drinking water for Mahbubnagar district.
According to the CMO, upon receiving the request from Mr Rao, Mr Kumaraswamy consulted with the officials and affirmed the release of water to the Jurala project. He then personally called up Mr Rao to inform him about it.
Mr Rao described it as good news for the people of Mahbubnagar district and conveyed gratitude to Mr Kumaraswamy. The CMO informed that both Chief Ministers were of the view that the two states should continue to maintain cordial and friendly relations.
