Pudukkottai: Body of man behind PNB heist found near sea shore

Pudukkottai: The district police on Friday recovered the body of Marimuthu, suspected to be the brain behind the recent theft of a large quantity of pledged jewels kept in the Punjab National Bank’s (PNB) locker, at Manalmelgudi-Kodiyakkarai shore in Pudukkottai district.

It might be recalled that the incident came to light when the employees of the bank came to open the bank on Monday and were shocked to notice that jewels kept in the locker and computer discs were found missing.

Police were on the lookout of Marimuthu, the office assistant of the bank and during their investigation, they detected the half-burnt car of Marimuthu at Vallathirakkottai near Pudukkottai on Tuesday. The police seized it and the half-burnt computer discs and a large quantity of imitation jewelry from the car.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed for a while at the bank premises on Friday also as a large number of its customers, especially for those who pledged their jewels, had assembled at the bank’s branch, seeking to know its safety status.
