Drainage works stalled in Kondapur
For the last six months, there is an unguarded drainage pipeline at the entrance of every interior road.
Hyderabad: The underground drainage work on the Kondapur-Miyapur road has been stalled for about a year. Considering the constant flow of sewerage on to the road, the GHMC had started work to build an underground drainage system for the residents of Kondapur at Gopal Reddy Nagar.
The works commenced last year but due to a water pipeline obstructing the drainage pipeline, the work was handed over to the Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB).
For the last six months, there is an unguarded drainage pipeline at the entrance of every interior road. Residents and commuters are requesting that the works be completed at the earliest in view of the oncoming monsoon.
Resident Deepthi Rao said, “When it rains this road is nothing short of a nightmare, especially in the dark. The roads have been in this state since very long. Even if they are taking time to complete, at least they should guard the roads properly.”
Commuters raised apprehensions about the work being completed as the area has already been witnessing rains. Techie Ramesh Babu, a frequent user of the road, said, “When it rains the entire stretch is flooded and water stagnation points on the main road add to the never ending sewerage flow. I’ve never seen work progressing in this place. The pending work should be completed immediately, especially because once it rains heavily officials cannot take up the work.”
A GHMC official said that residents and commuters need not worry about the rain as the work would be completed next week. "We have handed over the pipeline works to the HMWS&SB six months ago with the required money in the form of a demand draft and they gave clearance only last week. The old contractor has been brought back and the work will be completed in three days,” the official said. He said the work would be completed within the stipulated time even if it rained.
