Hyderabad: Devotees visiting the Alawa-e-Sartooq at Darulshifa are facing severe inconvenience due to frequent clogging of drains which results in sewerage seeping out from the pipelines at the entrance of the religious place.

Mr Firasat Ali Baqri, a Shia leader and regular visitor, said that drain water was regularly seeping out of the network at the point where the pipeline connects with the main sewerage pipeline.

“The entire network gets clogged every few days, and as a result, the sewerage from Ashoorkhana seeps out and flows on the road. To facilitate the entry of devotees we had to lay a temporary wooden platform to enable them to walk safely into the premises,” he said.

Darulshifa corporator Mirza Riyaz ul Hassan Effendi said the locals had informed him about the problem and the issue was taken up with the agency concerned.
“Officials were unavailable on Sunday for inspecting the area. However, a few labourers were sent and took up the cleaning works. After inspection is completed, we will come to know what is to be done to resolve problem permanently and we will work on it accordingly,” he said.

When contacted, general manager (engineering), operations and maintenance division No. 1, Mohd Khader Mohiuddin said that after receiving a complaint a team was sent to the spot on Sunday. “The team cleared the clogged drain lines and solved the problem,” he said.
