Edappadi K Palaniswami holds consultation with party secretaries
The ruling AIADMK enjoys a simple majority in the Assembly House, and has 122 members including 9 newly elected MLAs.
Chennai: AIADMK joint coordinator and Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami held a consultation meeting with his party’s district secretaries and election incharge of the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections and was said to have discussed several issues including the factors leading to the party’s poll debacle.
The meet held at the Chief Minister’s residence here on Monday was said to have revolved also around tackling the situation in the Assembly in the event of opposition DMK deciding to bring a ‘no confidence’ motion against the Speaker.
The ruling AIADMK enjoys a simple majority in the Assembly House, and has 122 members including 9 newly elected MLAs, while the combined strength of the DMK and its allies are no where near its mark. The DMK has a total of 101 members.
Though the AIADMK would easily survive a no-confidence motion, the party is very keen on retaining its position by keeping its flock intact.
Sources said the local bodies elections which are likely to be announced soon, also figured in the discussions. Mr. Palaniswami was said to have called upon the district secretaries to strive hard for the victory of the party in the civic bodies polls.
Despite putting up a brave fight post party supremo and former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, the AIADMK could only win the Theni Lok Sabha seat
