Thanjavur: LKG, UKG classes come to government schools
In Thanjavur district, LKG and UKG started functioning in 72 panchayat union schools on Monday in 14 panchayat unions.
Thanjavur: Now ‘LKG (lower kinder garden)’ and ‘UKG (upper kinder garden)’ have been introduced in panchayat union schools in Thanjavur district, thanks to a government order providing for introducing them in government schools like in private schools.
In Thanjavur district, LKG and UKG started functioning in 72 panchayat union schools on Monday in 14 panchayat unions. In Thiruvaiyaru union, LKG and UKG were started in four panchayat union middle schools. Inauguration was held at the school at Thirupazhanam near Thiruvaiyaru. Ten students were admitted to LKG and UKG, i.e., children in the age group of three to four in LKG and four to five in UKG. The children were given free books, note books and play materials.
Meiyappan, Block education officer inaugurated the classes. Rajarajan, Block Resource centre supervisor participated. Rajarajan said that the children will be taught under Montessori type of education by a trained teacher V. Senthilrani. Parents are interested and happy that children in ‘anganwadis’ have been promoted to LKG and UKG classes in the schools. Ms. Jayachitra, head mistress of the school participated in the function.
