Scared Uttar Pradesh girls refuse to attend their classes
The girls and their parents belonging to Dhaneli and Aurangabad villages met police officials on Wednesday.
Lucknow: After the gangrape of a school teacher in Bareilly on Tuesday, more than 50 girls from a local inter college in the district have informed the police that they will not attend their classes unless they are assured proper security.
The girls and their parents belonging to Dhaneli and Aurangabad villages met police officials on Wednesday and said that some local youths often passed obscene comments and tried to obstruct their movement on the road leading to the Dunka Inter College. On their collective complaint, an FIR has been filed and two youths have been arrested while a hunt is under way for others.
Dhaneli village head Naunesh Kumari said a similar incident took place with her two college-going daughters some days ago and they have decided not to send them to college till police takes guarantee of their security.
DIG Bareily Ashutosh Kumar said the matter has been brought to his notice and adequate patrolling will be done on the way to college and police personnel in plain clothes will also be deployed.
Meanwhile, the principal of the college, Vinod Kumar, has also written a letter to the SSP Bareilly and other senior officials following the girls’ complaint. The action comes a day after a teacher was abducted, taken to a secluded spot and gangraped by a group of youth and the act was videographed. She was left in the field by the criminals, who fled after committing the heinous act.
Disparaging comments on UP rape continue
Exactly a fortnight after one BJP leader generated a huge controversy by making unpalatable comments against BSP president Mayawati, another BJP leader, on Wednesday, came out worse with his reaction to UP minister Azam Khan’s remarks on the Bulandshahar rape case being a part of a political conspiracy.
UP BJP spokesman I.P. Singh took to Twitter and posted a rather shameful comment which said that if Mr Khan’s wife and daughter are made to go through a similar ordeal, he will realise the pain of the same. It may be recalled that the BJP, on Tuesday, had condemned the remark by the UP minister in which he claimed that the Bulandshahar rape case was a political conspiracy.
The family of the highway rape victim had also slammed the minister’s comment. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Azam Khan retracted his earlier statement and accused the media of distorting his words. He demanded implementation of Sharia Law for rape cases in India. In a statement, Mr Khan said, “If Sharia Law is implemented, we will see a sharp decline in crime rates”.
