Karnataka: Shivakumar's assets increased three fold
The go-to man of the ruling Congress, Mr Shivakumar's assets have increased three-fold.
Bengaluru: The country's second richest minister according to a survey by the Association for Democratic Reforms, energy minister, Mr D.K. Shivakumar has assets worth Rs 251 crore but trails stalwarts like Housing Minister M. Krishnappa at Rs 147 cr. and his son Priya Krishna at Rs 900 crore and former Minister Mr Shamanur Shivashankarappa and his son Horticulture Minister Mr SS Malikarjun, who have declared assets of 127.89 crore. The go-to man of the ruling Congress, Mr Shivakumar's assets have increased three-fold, from his net worth Rs 75 crores ahead of Assembly elections in 2008 to Rs 251 crores on the eve of polls in 2013. His affidavit, however, points at liabilities of Rs 105 crores in 2013. He, however, was the richest politician contesting elections in 2013 with his assets worth Rs 251 crores.
The affidavit submitted to the Election Commission lists assets such as non-agricultural land worth Rs 142 crores, commercial buildings worth Rs 24 crores, movable assets of Rs 46 crores, agricultural land worth Rs 1.14 crores and declared income of Rs 58.53 lakhs a year. The minister has also listed commercial buildings, residential buildings, and investments to the tune of Rs 4.18 crores in the affidavit.
