Telangana: No more special officers' rule
Poll process to start in municipalities of scheduled areas of the state.
Hyderabad: Two decades long special officers’ rule is going to end soon in three municipalities in the state. Due to court cases and other technical reasons, the elections are not held in the municipalities of Mandamarri in Adilabad, Palwancha and Manuguru in Khammam district.
The state government has issued orders under the provisions of the Telangana State Municipal Act. To speed up the electoral process, the state election commission has asked the government to complete the delimitation process and the finalisation of reserved constituencies in these three municipalities.
The administration in these three civic houses is looked after by special officers since 20 years.
It may recalled that Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao had promised to hold elections in these municipalities during the Assembly election campaign.
The government also said that reserved seats in the municipalities, located in scheduled areas, will not be less than one half of the total number of seats. Moreover, 50 per cent of the seats may be reserved for women belonging to the scheduled tribe.
The reservation of seats will be changed by a rotation system in different wards in these municipalities.
The government said that all chairpersons of these municipalities will be selected from the scheduled tribes.
Meanwhile, the state election commission informed the government that the poll panel is ready to conduct the polls in these three civic houses.
