Security to Congress leader Digvijay Singh withdrawn
Opposition Congress cried foul, accusing the BJP government of victimising Singh to cower him down ahead of the state Assembly elections.
Bhopal: Weeks after he was asked to vacate the official accommodation, allotted to him when he was the chief minister, Madhya Pradesh, security cover of the veteran Congress leader Digvijay Singh was withdrawn on Friday. The former chief minister, who has been assigned a gigantic responsibility of uniting the faction-ridden Congress in Madhya Pradesh by the Central leadership of the Congress, ahead of year-end polls, has also failed to make it to the revised VIP list of MP, as announced by the state security committee here on Friday.
MP Pradesh Congress committee president Kamal Nath has replaced Singh in the revised VIP list which has retained the VIP status for Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, senior BJP leaders and also former chief ministers Babulal Gaur and Uma Bharti.
Director general of police of MP, Rishi Kumar Shukla, however denied his department’s involvement, saying, “We do not prepare the VIP list. It is the state security committee’s responsibility.” Opposition Congress cried foul, accusing the BJP government of victimising Singh to cower him down ahead of the state Assembly elections due in the state later this year.
