Bengaluru: The BBMP has installed CCTV surveillance systems at sensitive locations on the periphery of Bellandur Lake as per the directions of the National Green Tribunal’s (NGT).
The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has also started desilting the lake to rejuvenate it by constructing temporary diversion channels which will drain out water from the lake.
The channel work is going on near Doddamma Devi Temple and these temporary channels will prevent entry of sewage into the lake.
Such temporary diversion channels will also be created soon at Varthur Lake too.
The rejuvenation of the lakes will take about 15 months and it is hoped that after the BWSSB builds a sewage treatment plant by 2020, farmers will get treated and not contaminated water.
The silt dredged out will be tested and distributed to farmers, officials said.
