Hyderabad: Kidnapper arrested
The accused, Ravi Sekhar, 48, had released the victim who was spotted at the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station on July 30 and was rescued.
Hyderabad: The kidnapper who took away a 21-year-old girl from Hayathnagar on July 23 was arrested by the Rachakonda police on Saturday after 10 days.
The accused, Ravi Sekhar, 48, had released the victim who was spotted at the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station on July 30 and was rescued. Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh M. Bhagwat said Sekhar had sexually assaulted her.
About 200 police personnel in 10 teams were involved in the operation to nab Sekhar after he cheated her family and drove away with the victim. Police announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh to nab Sekhar.
The break came on July 29 when Sekhar took the victim to Veerlapalem, Miryal-guda, where he threatened a fertiliser shop owner and took away Rs 82,000 in cash, two gold rings and a silver ring, Mr Bhagwat said.
A case was registered at Wadapally police station, Nalgonda district. Police who were hunting for Sekhar used this incident and tracked him down and arrested him.
The victim’s ordeal began on July 23. At about 7.30 am on that day, Sekhar drove to her father’s hotel at Bongulur Gate under Ibrahimpatnam police limits. He started a conversation with the owner and claimed he was a surgeon and that his parents were judges. With his influence, Sekhar said he could get jobs for his children.
He took the hotel owner, the victim and her brother in his car ostensibly to get them jobs.
After some time, he dropped the victim’s brother at LB Nagar crossroads. After driving around the city, he stopped at Hayathnagar at 8.50 pm and asked the father to get a print-out of his daughter’s qualifications. When he got down, Sekhar drove away with the victim.
The victim’s brother had taken a video in the car in which Sekhar’s face was partially seen. That helped the police identify the kidnapper and gave them his previous history. The police registered a case and formed 10 special teams to nab Sekhar.
Mr Bhagwat said that after kidnapping her, Sekhar told the victim that her parents were coming in a different car and took her to Kurnool, Kadapa and Prakasam districts. He used to stop at secluded places. Mr Bhagwat said Sekhar allegedly sexually assaulted the victim in a forest and threatened her with dire consequences if she did not keep quiet.
Finally, Sekhar left the victim at Chilakaluripet. She reached the Addanki bus stand and then came to Hyderabad on July 30 where she was spotted by her neighbour.
