Hyderabad: Varsity's computer operator named in previous scams
All responsible officials blindly passed salary sheets without verifying.
Hyderabad: Y.V. Rajeswar Rao, the accused in the ongoing scam, is also involved in marks tampering and postal stickers’ scams.
In the marks tampering scam, the records in the university were manipulated by overwriting. For example, 39 was changed to 89. This happened in 1993 and 1995. “Earlier, the technology was not available and the scamsters overwrote the marks and issued fresh computer memos to a few students. Y.V. Rajeswar Rao was working with the examination branch at that time,” the source said.
The postal stickers scam occurred in 2005. “Following the demand drafts scam in the university, the authorities introduced postal stickers for fees and challan payments with co-ordination from the postal department. The postal department issued postal stickers by collecting money from students for challan and fees. The scamsters removed the stickers from the applications and sold them to other students for a lesser amount,” the source said. “More than 13 employees, including Y.V. Rajeswar Rao, were involved in the scam,” the source added.
In the marks tampering scam, the university withdrew the case due to lack of evidence and in the postal stickers scam, the accused agreed to pay the loss to the university.
Though Y.V. Rajeswar Rao was shifted to a non-priority wing, he was later elevated to the finance wing as a computer operator, where he orchestrated the ongoing scam.
