ULB polls: SDPI widens base in Dakshina Kannada
The SDPI has won four seats and will play a decisive role in the formation of the new council there.
The ULB election results on Monday proved that the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has succeeded in strengthening itself not only in rural areas in Dakshina Kannada district but also in towns and cities. The party came third after the BJP and Congress in the district. The SDPI not only won 11 of the 25 seats it contested but is likely to play a decisive role in Bantwal Town Municipality- the constituency of former Minister B Ramanath Rai. In Bantwal TMC, of the 27 seats, the Congress has 12 and BJP, 11 seats.
The SDPI has won four seats and will play a decisive role in the formation of the new council there. In Ullal it contested in nine out of 31 wards and won six. In Puttur it contested four of the 31 seats and won one. Thus of the 25 wards it contested, the party won in 11 seats.
"The result shows the public support for SDPI. Our party has been closely associated with the people and has taken up various issued related to them. Our workers have succeeded in taking the party to the grassroot level," SDPI district president AM Atavulla told Deccan Chronicle. In many places where SDPI won, it has grabbed the seats of the Congress.
