2 selfie-takers, 3 other drown in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Two persons who were taking selfies and a 14-year-old boy were among five persons who drowned in the city and surrounding areas. Police said two youth drowned at a water body in a quarry at Kothwalguda while trying to take selfies.
A group of 14 youngsters had gone to the quarry on the city outskirts on Sunday evening and some of them entered the water to take selfies and group photographers.
Two of them, Shoaib, 19, and Zubair, 17, drowned when they apparently entered deep into the water to take a selfie. A bystander rescued another person in the group, airport police said. The bodies were recovered on Monday morning, RGI airport sub-inspector Md Naseer said.
In another incident that came to light on Monday, six boys from Aliabad had gone to the Jalpally lake on Sunday afternoon for a swim. Ismail who did not know swimming entered the lake along with his friends, and drowned.
“His friends tried to rescue him, but in vain, Out of fear they left the lake and did not even inform Ismail’s parents.” said Pahadishareef sub-inspector M. Sudhakar.
On Monday morning, locals noticed a body floating in the lake and alerted the police. The news spread in the surroundings. One of Ismail’s friends then approached the police and reported the incident. The body was later identified as that of Ismail and a case of suspicious death was was registered.
In another incident in Medak two youth drowned in Narinjavagu stream on Monday. The duo was identified as Satish, 18, and Srinivas, 19, of Madri in Kohir mandal. The bodies were recovered and handed over to their families.
