Visakhapatnam: A three-decade-old abandoned house collapsed at the Nathavaram area in Vizag district on Monday evening.

As per reports, the old house belonged to Yerra Patrudu, a farmer in Nathavaram. During the road-widening works in 2008, some portion of the house was damaged and Yerra Patrudu shifted his family to another house. However, Yerra Patrudu’s relative has been staying in an adjacent house.

“I was asked to evacuate people from the house on Sunday as the abandoned house was fully soaked in the heavy rains. The old house collapsed on Monday,” said Soma Naidu.

K. Ramana, a native of Nathavaram, said that the house was built in 1982. Locals said that strong winds dealt the final blow to the rain-soaked building. Sources said that though the villagers have advised Patrudu to demolish the old building, he ignored it.
