Constitute anti-ragging squads: VTU to colleges
These committees must take immediate action to the curb ragging.
BENGALURU: The Visvesaraya Technological University (VTU) has directed all its 219 affiliated, constituent and autonomous engineering colleges coming under its ambit to constitute an anti-ragging squad and an anti-ragging cell to eliminate the menace of ragging in all their college campuses.
The Registrar of VTU Prof A.S.Deshpande has issued a circular to the principals of all these colleges to take immediate steps in this regard following directions from University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), Supreme Court and Government of Karnataka last week.
As per guidelines of UGC and AICTE, the names and members of the Committee with their contact numbers must be uploaded to college website. These committees must take immediate action to the curb ragging.
The Registrar has also asked all principals of engineering colleges to collect the affidavits from all students and parents in avowing not to indulge in ragging without fail and also to bring to his notice of any incidents of ragging reported from their colleges immediately.
He also said UGC has also suggested all colleges to install CCTV at vantage points in all college campuses and, to conduct anti-ragging workshop to sensitize students and faculty.
Mention of anti-ragging warning in the institutions prospectus, information booklets and brochures is a must.
UGC also advised all managements to conduct surprise inspection of hostels, students accommodation, canteens, rest- cum recreational rooms, toilets, bus stands to eliminate the scourge of ragging.
It also directed to display anti-ragging posters at all prominent places in the campus like admission centre, departments, library, canteen, and hostel.
