MVI parked illegal cash in Uganda banks

Kurnool: Little did the Anti-Corruption Bureau in AP know that they would be netting a “vasool raja” when its sleuths conducted simultaneous raids on Thursday in Kurnool, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Tadipatri against a motor vehicle inspector (MVI).

The ACB’s raids unearthed assets worth Rs 10 crore from A. Siva Prasad who works as a MVI at Panchalingala check post in Kurnool city.

Kurnool ACB DSP M. Nagabhushanam said that after receiving a tip off, special teams were formed to simultaneously raid the residences and offices of Prasad and his relatives in various cities. From a house in Doctors’ Colony in Kurnool city, the raiding party seized `1.45 lakh in cash, along with 1 kg gold ornaments.

In addition, a ground plus seven-storey apartment worth Rs 3 crore was located in Bengaluru city and a house worth Rs 2 crore at Udal Halli in Bengaluru. The MVI was also found to be in possession of a Rs 1.5-crore apartment at Vijayaberi Orange Arcade near Gacchibowli in Hyderabad city, apart from a Rs 1 crore house site at Gajula Ramaram.

The MVI was found to be maintaining bank lockers at Hyderabad and in Uganda. He had established two private companies Axytree Hotel Private Limited and Sinibids Company Private Limited in Hyderabad in the name of his wife to channelise the illicit money, the DSP stated. ACB has seized all documents, promissory notes, cash and ornaments, including two motorbikes and a car. Officials said the value of seizures made could be five times higher on the open market.

The accused MVI had joined government service in 1994 as assistant motor vehicle inspector in the transport department and got promoted as motor vehicle inspector.

A case has been registered against him for owning assets disproportionate to his known sources of income and inquiry is on, the DSP said, advising people to tip off ACB in case they come across any corrupt officials in the district
