HYDERABAD: The BJP, in a communique to the Election Commission of India, expressed apprehension over instances of crass corruption, abuse of state machinery, and violence against Opposition parties by the ruling BRS.

“State-sponsored and institutionalized fear, anarchy, and lawlessness by the state police at the behest and bidding of BRS negates the very role of police for providing safety and security to its people,” it said.

The note went on to claim that the political neutrality of public servants was also compromised, which eroded the basic principles of free and fair elections.

“A large-scale demoralisation has set in amongst a very large number of honest civil servants, while few dishonest and pliable have thrived at the behest of the ruling party. We hence urge the ECI to review the arrangements for the forthcoming Assembly elections in this backdrop of abuse of state machinery,” the note read.

The BJP claimed to have detected 78 lakh voters with the same door numbers, allotted to different polling stations, saying that there was no resolution despite raising a complaint about the same.

Touching on state schemes, the note said, “Partisan officials, direct benefit transfer of Rythu Bandhu just ahead of polling dates, paid media, CC cameras for conduct of election in sensitive polling stations in urban areas, check on transportation of money, liquor and other contrabands in the police vehicles and ambulances should be kept tab on and seek compliance with the EC instructions forthwith.”

The BJP sought the deployment of Central police forces at least 30 days before the polling day.

The party further sought live webcasting of proceedings at critical polling stations for all political parties.

The note was submitted by Om Pathak, BJP national executive member, Marri Shashidhar Reddy, BJP state EC affairs member, and K. Anthony Reddy, BJP state EC affairs member.
