Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam MP M.V.V. Satyanarayana, who is also chairman of Visakhapatnam Airport Advisory Committee, has met Bureau of Civil Aviation and Security regional director Anil Kumar, seeking improved domestic and international services from the Visakhapatnam airport.
During the meeting, MVV pointed out that occupancy of flights from Visakhapatnam to Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore is above 90 per cent. It is 80 per cent in case of Chennai and Calcutta. The MP thus sought that frequency of flights to these destinations must be increased.
Vizag airport director Raja Reddy facilitated the meeting between MVV and Anil Kumar. When it emerged that Visakhapatnam airport is ranked 66 globally, the MP requested that authorities work out a detailed plan with action points, so that the airport could figure within the top 30 global rankings.
The MP said Indian Navy has proposed to shut down Vizag airport operations between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m. from November 2023 to April 2024 for runway maintenance. He underlined that he has given a representation to defence minister Rajnath Singh and civil aviation minister Jyothiraditya Scindia to affect the shutdown only from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
