BENGALURU: Leaders of the pradesh Congress committee and state unit of Youth Congress staged a protest against the Delhi police for detaining party vice president Rahul Gandhi twice on Wednesday night.

“It is a big blunder by the Centre to arrest Rahulji like this. The Centre detained Rahulji for a silly reason. One Rank One Pension was announced by the BJP in the last elections. However, the party did not implement it properly after coming to power. This is unethical,” said KPCC working president Dinesh Gundurao.

‘Centre silencing dissent’
Terming the Union government headed by Narendra Modi as dictatorial, Congress MLC Mr V.S. Ugrappa said that the Centre was silencing all dissenting voices.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, he said the way the Centre reacted on Wednesday arresting Delhi CM Aravind Kejriwal and detaining Congress VP Rahul Gandhi, it looked like there was an undeclared Emergency in the country.

“OROP was an electoral promise made by Mr Modi in 2014. He had announced this at a rally at Chandigadh and promised to protect the interests of soldiers and farmers. Now when a former jawan committed suicide, the Modi government is suppressing dissent. If this is the plight of the CM and MPs, what will be the fate of the common citizen? The police have arrested even family members of the jawan, who committed suicide,'' he said. Mr Ugrappa demanded an unconditional apology from the Prime Minister to the family members of the Jawan as well as people of the country.
