Vadakara sandbanks gear up for facelift

Boating facility, handicrafts unit and other attractions are expected to woo tourists.

Kozhikode: The Sandbanks in Vadakara, a locally famous beach spot, is gearing up for a facelift.  As a part of the development works, solar lamps were installed at the picturesque spot on Saturday. 

Laying tiles, arranging more seats and setting up small eateries and accommodation facilities are other major beautification works coming up at Sandbanks under the tourism department. 

“The proposal to develop the two-acre government land for arranging accommodation and dining facilities for tourists is under the consideration of the tourism department,” said C.K. Nanu MLA. 

As many as 20 solar lamps installed now have motion sensor feature, lighting at 10 watt capacity in normalcy and 30 watts brighter in the presence of people. 
Authorities have roped in the district tourism promotion council (DTPC) in the development plan for the British-era tourism spot. 

“Sandbanks, Moorad river, Iringal Craft Village and Kunjali Marakkar Museum, the temple and ancestral house of Thacholi Othenan form a tourism circuit under the plan,” the legislator said. 

Boating facility, handicrafts unit and other attractions are expected to woo tourists. Besides, a Kalari Academy is also on the cards to train youngsters in the area.
