Central government to promote Unani Medicine

Hyderabad: Union minister of state in charge of AYUSH, Shripad Yesso Naik, inaugurated the National Research Institute of Unani Medicine for Skin Disorders (NRIUMSD) on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Naik said AYUSH hospitals will be set up across the country and Unani too would be promoted.
He congratulated the Central Research Institute of Unani Medicine (CRIUM) for specialising in the treatment of vitiligo and other chronic diseases.
“CRIUM is probably the only medical institution in the world which has treated more than 1.5 lakh patients of vitiligo alone and which has also developed multiple drugs for vitiligo. In the next three to four years the public in every district of the country will be able to get the benefit of treatment at Ayush hospitals. Over 100 such hospitals of 50 bed capacity each have been established and more proposals are coming from state governments,” he said. “In the next three to four years AYUSH hospitals will be established in all the districts across the country,” the minister added.
He said the Central government wants to integrate AYUSH in the health delivery system and tap the real potential of AYUSH systems in imparting preventive, promotive and holistic healthcare to the people.
The government was also providing increasing patronage and funds for multi-faceted development of the Unani system of medicine and other AYUSH systems of medicine, he said. India has a good infrastructure of Unani System of Medicine and 55 academic institutions are imparting Unani medical education, he said.
