Four injured in lightning strikes in Nagapattinam district

Nagapattinam: Four persons including three women were hospitalised as lightning struck at two different places near Sirkazhi in Nagapattinam district on Sunday.
Police said a 40-year -old-mother and her two teenage daughters were injured due to lightning strike when rain accompanied by thunder damaged their house asbestos roof at Melavallam village near Sirkazhi. Household articles including a refrigerator, television set, an electric stove and a borewell motor were badly damaged under its impact.

Similarly, a 60-year-old agriculture worker, Kannu was also injured due to a lightning strike at Nallavinayagapuram village when he was engaged in field work. He was also rushed to the Government hospital Sirkazhi.
Official sources told DC that at least 100 television sets and other electronic goods were damaged due to the lightning strike in a few villages in and around Sirkazhi today. Kollidam police are investigating.
