Hyderabad: 2nd Biodiversity flyover ready
The second-level flyover at the Biodiversity junction would ease traffic congestion by providing conflict-free movement at the junction.
Hyderabad: Municipal administration and urban development minister K.T. Rama Rao will inaugurate the second level flyover at the Biodiversity junction on Monday. Work on the flyover which cost `69.47 crore was completed on November 1.
The second-level flyover at the Biodiversity junction would ease traffic congestion by providing conflict-free movement at the junction. It will also provide relief to traffic on the Old Mumbai Highway from Mehdipatnam to Mindspace (Hitec City).
The completion of this flyover along with the other components of the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) package-IV at Mindspace junction, Ayyappa Society junction and Rajiv Gandhi junction has created a conflict-free traffic flow channel from from Biodiversity junction on the Old Mumbai Highway to JNTU on National Highway 65.
The level 1 flyover at the Biodiversity junction is still stuck in court cases. As reported by this newspaper, the failure to acquire one property has halted the project since two years. The owner is holding out for compensation under the Land Act, while others have accepted transferable development rights (TDR).
The level 1 flyover when it is complete will cater to traffic moving from Gachibowli towards Khajaguda, avoiding the Bio-Diversity Junction. The delay in completing it has led to traffic snarls as about 15,000 vehicles cross the point per hour.
Shilpa layout to get 2-level flyover
Municipal administration minister K.T. Rama Rao will lay the foundation stone for a two-level flyover at the Shilpa layout road which is next to IKEA. The project would be constructed in six months at an estimated cost of `330 crore.
The proposed six-land bi-directional skyway would connect Shilpa layout with the ORR via Kondapur.
The first level would be a four-lane bi-directional flyover crossing the Gachibowli junction from Shilpa layout to ORR.
The GHMC said the project would ease traffic at the Gachibowli junction and cater to the needs of HKC and Meenkashi Group Buildings. It would also offer better connectivity between Hitec City and Financial District. This would result in fuel and travel time savings, reduction in pollution and enhance pedestrian safety.
