Hyderabad: On Sunday, over 2 lakh people travelled on the Metro Rail till 6 pm.

The authorities said that the ‘holiday crowd’ wanted to get a taste of Metro. The highest crowd since the launch of Metro was witnessed on the weekend, with approximately 4 lakh people undertaking train journeys.

In anticipation of such a large crowd on the first weekend of commercial operations, L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited had senior officers stationed at Ameerpet, Miyapur and Nagole stations to ensure that passenger movement proceeded without any hassle.

A senior officer said, “Safety is our main concern. There are small children, senior citizens and excited parents who want to try out the new system. These are not regular passengers, but merely the holiday crowd. We need to take extra care of these passengers as they are here for a joyride, and they may not understand the safety aspects.”
