Ilaiah arrested at shepherds' convention
A Bandh was observed by the Arya Vysya community against Prof. Ilaiah's controversial book.
Khammam: Prof. Kancha Ilaiah, who came to Khammam to participate in the Telangana state-level sheep-rearers and shepherds convention was arrested on Sunday from the CPM office.
Tension prevailed at the office for an hour as activists of the Left parties and shepherds objected the arrest of Prof. Ilaiah and raised slogans against the police and the government. Some activists jostled with the police.
He was later sent back to Hyderabad.
ACP P.V. Ganesh said Prof. Ilaiah that he was being taken into custody keeping the law and order situation in view. Police had not given permission for the meeting. A Bandh was observed by the Arya Vysya community against Prof. Ilaiah’s controversial book.
Speaking to mediapersons, prof. Ilaiah said that he had sought police protection after some members of his group warned him of an attack. “Instead of providing protection, police arrested me. The democratic rights of a person are not being honoured”, Prof. Ilaiah said.
