Meelad-un-Nabi Award for Gowda

H.D. Deve Gowda has said that Prophet Muhammad showed humanity the righteous path of compassion and universal brotherhood.

Bengaluru: Former prime minister and Janata Dal (Secular) chief H.D. Deve Gowda has said that Prophet Muhammad showed humanity the righteous path of compassion and universal brotherhood.

He was speaking at the Meelad-un-Nabi celebrations here after receiving the “Meelad-un-Nabi Award 2017” from the office-bearers of Sunni Jamiyatul Ulema All Karnataka.

Dr Anwar Shariff, general secretary of Sunni Jamiyatul Ulema All Karnataka, said that it was Mr Deve Gowda who introduced reservation for minorities. Mr Gowda as chief minister took the decision to introduce 4 per cent reservation for Muslims in government jobs, he added. 

Syed Shah Shamsul Haq Qadri, president of Sunni Jamiyatul Ulema All-Karnataka, Dr Syed Hamiduddin Sharafi, director of Islamic History Research Council of India, Hyderabad, B. M. Farooq, secretary general, JD(S), and S.S.A. Khader, chairman of Khykha group of institutions were present.
