Telangana State Prisons Department: Prison staff to play for 3 days
270 people from all levels will take part in the event.
Hyderabad: The Telangana State Prisons Department started its Fifth Prisons sports meet, a three-day league, on Monday. The event is being held at the SICA Parade Ground on the Chanchalguda jail premises.
Director-General, Disaster Response and Fire Services, M. Gopi Krishna, badminton coach Pullela Gopichand and former cricketer V. Chamundeswaranath, vice-president of the Hyderabad Badminton Association, attended.
This is the fifth time in a row that the TS prisons department is holding a sports event and the initiative of Director-General, Prisons, V.K. Singh was appreciated.
“About 270 participants from all over the state of various cadre, ranging from warder to superintendent of prisons will be participating in the sports meet in indoor and outdoor competitions, which will be conducted for men and women staff and officers,” Mr Singh said.
“The 270 members who have been selected for events like 100m and 800m races, shot put, kabaddi, basketball, volleyball and shuttle will be off duty,” Mr Singh added.
The prisons department conducts a similar meet for prisoners, undertrials and convicts, in February every year as well. The meet is held as part of the reformatory steps being taken up by the prisons department.
