Cauvery delta farmers met Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel

Thanjavur: A group of farmers led by Sundara Vimalanathan, secretary of Thanjavur district Cauvery farmers protection association, met the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Bhupesh Baghel at his office at Chhattisgarh and thanked him for giving Rs 2,500 per quintal for paddy as price in the state.
They presented coconut seedlings to the Chief Minister. Vimalanathan, at a press release said that in Tamil Nadu the price is Rs 1,820 per quintal. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister had added Rs 750 to the minimum support price announced by the Central government, which is Rs 1,750 and has given a price of Rs 2,500 per quintal. This price is only in Chhattisgarh and not in any other state in India. “We wanted to appreciate him and thank him,” he said.
The Chief Minister of that state reportedly told the farmers that 1,540 traditional varieties of paddy are cultivated in Chhattisgarh and appealed to the farmers from Tamil Nadu to cultivate traditional varieties of paddy. He also said that a national-level festival on traditional varieties will be organised in Chhattisgarh to popularise them.
Anbalagan, secretary to Chhattisgarh government was also present at the meeting.
