Kozhikode: T. Chandu, the key accused in the Payyoli Manoj murder who was arrested by CBI recently, has found a place on the 43-member list of CPM district committee elected unanimously on Thursday.

The inclusion of Chandumash, as he's popular among the cadres, is a clear indication that the party is with the accused, and it will protect them.
District secretary P. Mohanan also received a second term as his opponents failed to put up a candidate.

Moreover, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan who sat through the entire three-day conference unequivocally delivered the message that the party would not entertain factionalism.

Few persons crazy about power have been creating all the confusion, he warned them. At many points during discussions, he intervened to sort out issues.

Though there were attempts to replace P. Mohanan, they were foiled by the official faction. The move was smooth as the opposition was weak.

Interestingly, the conference also passed a resolution against the anti-GAIL agitation that rocked the district terming it as an attempt by communal forces to capitalise on the public scare.
