Hyderabad: The adjudicating authority based in New Delhi has confirmed the attachment of benami properties of slain gangster Nayeemuddin.

Income tax department officials investigating the gangster’s finances had attached the benami properties. The department had sought permission from the adjudicating authority to attach the properties, which it received on Friday.

The department attached properties worth Rs 12 crore under the provisions of the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Amendment Act, 2016.

Earlier, the department issued notices to Nayeem’s family seeking more information about the properties. It is learnt that the Enforcement Directorate has also completed a probe into the properties owned by Nayeem.

Most of the properties attached are agricultural land parcels and open plots in and around Bhongir in the Rachakonda police commissionerate and Nalgonda district.

Police sources said that Nayeem had grabbed the land or purchased it after threatening owners with dire consequences if they failed to sell the land to him.
