Hyderabad: Permission for two state zoos gets cancelled
Permission to the Sanghi Mini Zoo was cancelled on November 28, sources said.
Hyderabad: Two zoos in the state Sanghi Mini Zoo in Ranga Reddy district and Kesoram Cement Deer Park were among the 13 whose permission was cancelled by the Central Zoo Authority.
Environment minister Mahesh Sharma said the decision was taken by the CZA considering physiological, biological and behavioural requirements for the well being of captive animals housed in the zoos.
Permission to the Sanghi Mini Zoo was cancelled on November 28, sources said.
The Central Zoo Authority mentioned that zoo had failed to fence the premises to prevent entry of domestic livestock, and to post an officer of appropriate rank as whole time inharge to oversee the health of the animals.
The CZA stated that the zoo failed to provide adequate vegetation and enrichment in the enclosure for spotted deer. It had also failed to maintain hygiene.
The CZA technical Committee on September 28, 2018, recommended cancelling the recognition for the Sanghi Mini Zoo.
The CZA on November 19, 2018, canceled the recognition.
