Thiruvananthapuram: The police has decided to tighten security for chief minister Pinaryi Vijayan in the light of security breaches and  spontaneous protests by BJP -Sangh Parivar activists.

He will remain in Z-plus category. Roads to be used by the chief minister's  motorcade would be sanitised of protesters.

Cops will be deployed in mufti near venues of the chief minister's public engagements.  ''We have already tightened CM security. We are trying our best to prevent violent protests at his functions and on the VIP route . We will deal with the situation as it comes,'' said a senior police officer.

The VIP escort, especially the pilot vehicles, will ensure road clearance using horns and cops will warn people standing closer to roads to move away. Usually the cops lunge out of their vehicles and shout at motorists to clear the road. After the Sangh Pariver protests erupted in the state, the police had scaled up chief minister's security. The venues of public functions of the chief minister are under strict vigil of the police. .
