The tourist bus of a BJP leader torched in Vadakara

Kozhikode: The Rural Police Chief has clamped Section 144 in Vadakara and Perambra police limits for five days from Friday. Violence is continuing in both the places and in Koyilandy.

A tourist bus owned by Gayatri Gireesh, a BJP local leader at Kurikkilad in Vadakara, was torched in the wee hours of Friday. Tyre and glass of the vehicle were destroyed. The BJP alleged that CPM is behind the incident. The office of fishermen welfare cooperative samiti has been vandalised near Chombala harbour.

A steel bomb was hurled at the house of Malabar Devaswom Board member Sasikumar Perambra at Kallod in Perambra. Sasikumar is CPM Perambra East local committee member. Perambra witnessed a series of slugfest between DYFI-Muslim youth league and DYFI-Youth Congress on Thursday night. Police had to resort to bursting grenade several times to disperse the mob.

Koyilandy, Viyyur and Naderi bear the brunt of CPM-BJP tussle. The bike of Koyilandy Municipality Chairman K. Sathyan was destroyed on Thursday night. Clash between CPM and BJP workers resulted in the injury of four BJP workers and a CPM worker at Viyyur here on Thursday.
