Duo scripts a different' success story
Disability no bar; bright IIMK students picked by top firms.
KOZHIKODE: Physical disability has not prevented two bright students of Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIMK) from getting placement in top companies.
Priyank Goel and Mohit Kumar, both from Uttar Pradesh, proved their mettle along with the others who were selected with an annual average salary package of Rs 17.1 lakh by various firms.
The eldest son of a sugarcane farmer from Ghaziabad, UP, Priyank was born without one of his palms. But his father inspired him and brought him up as any other normal child. He taught him driving at the age of ten.
“He empowered me to compete with other students. I never felt anything special about me. Teachers and friends always supported me,” said Priyank.
On his experience at the IIMK, Priyank said that he was one of the youngest on the campus. “I came straight from the college after completing my BTech from government engineering college, Sulthanpur,” he said.
When asked whether the IIMK altered his dreams, Priyank said even from childhood he had been dreaming of starting his own business.
“IIM is part of that journey towards the goal, but for the time being I will work,” said Priyank who has been selected by the TVS in its sales team.
A bit more challenging was the physical condition of Mohit Kumar from Kanpur, UP. Born to a doctor couple, he fought against his limitations and finally came out with flying colours. On the placement process,
Mohit Kumar said that there were several tough rounds of interviews before the final phase in Mumbai. “IIMK days helped me a lot in reinventing myself and weaving out a good pan-India network of friends,” he said.
“I was supported by my family and my friends,” he added. Though there are many physical constrains, that never deterred Mohit Kumar from winning his goals competing with other friends. He won one of the best offers among the IIMK pals in an MNC.
“We are proud of these students who have done it on their own,” said Prof A.F. Mathews, chairman of the IIMK placement cell. “They learnt, worked together with others and reaped good results,” he added.
