Confusion in handling clean up: Kanimozhi

Chennai: DMK MP Kanimozhi has asked four ministers at the centre to intervene in the cleaning up of oil spill in the sea near the Chennai coast to ensure that it is done quickly, besides providing compensation to the affected fishermen.
An enquiry should be conducted into the collision of the two ships belonging to the central government, she said. In a letter to Union Minister for Agriculture Radha Mohan Singh, Minister for Environment Madhav Dave, Shipping minister Nitin Gadkari and Minister of State for the same department Pon. Radhakrishnan she said no modern equipment is being used in the cleaning up process and officials with special expertise had not been involved in the process.

There is confusion if the coast guard or the port trust should take the clean up job, she said.
